For My Katy
12 years ago, my sweet grandmother, Katy, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This diagnosis changed the life of EVERYONE in my family. We were devastated.
As time progressed, I watched my mother become an exhausted caregiver who did her best for her mom. It was the fist time in my life I saw my mother as her mother’s daughter. I knew I needed to do something but because we lived in different states, I felt helpless.
That’s when I found Covenant Care. They have an entire program dedicated to helping Alzheimer’s patients and their families. In order to learn more about the disease, I took every class, group and volunteer training that Covenant had to offer. I was able to take what I learned and share with my family.
That is what I love about Covenant Care. They not only take care of their patients, but they also take care of the families and caregivers too. Covenant has many FREE programs, like Project Lifesaver, that help these families dealing with Alzheimer’s.
Project Lifesaver provides, FOR FREE, tracking devices for Alzheimer’s patients that wander or get lost. When a patient wanders from their home, Covenant Care works with law enforcement to find the patient ASAP! This is a piece of mind for those caregivers.
My Sweet Katy has since passed but I know she would want me to fight for those families who have loved ones living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. And with the money we raise through this event, that is EXACTLY what we will be doing! 100% of the money raised stays local and goes directly to Covenant Care's Alzheimer's.
